The blade is forged from 52100. This high carbon steel with only 1.75% Chromium will tarnish and patina with time. The blade should be cleaned and towel dried after every use.
The handle is made in Sakai, Japan from water buffalo horn and magnolia wood. Comes with a kimono-silk sleeve and cork lined blade cover.
