Reclaimed 52100 270mm Kiritsuke Gyuto
This blade is condensed from many pieces of 52100. Some were blades that had to be scrapped and some were shear cuts from the process of making knives over the years. The logo is set in tin-silver alloy.
I’m sure some people will be wondering why this blade is priced significantly lower than the tin fused pieces. To me, this type of forge welded blade is easily lost in the very crowded arena of pattern welded knives. My interests was in making use of material that seems beyond salvageable. It is one of the great satisfactions of blacksmithing to transform seemingly useless materials into something new. But, while there is meaning and beauty in the origins of this knife, the visual effect is categorically typical of many knives that are out there. While I think that this blade is a beautiful, subtle version of a pattern welded blade, I have priced it with these considerations in mind.
The handle is African black wood and Madagascar rosewood.
