Wrought iron Clad Moon Gyuto 245mm

Wrought iron Clad Moon Gyuto 245mm

$3,800.00

This cladding is forged from old wagon tire that someone forged into a strap hinge (presumably for a barn door or such. See photo below). The core is 52100 (this is atypical of my wrought clad blades, which historically have W2 for the core). The Moon motif is Tin which runs through the blade, creating two faces of the moon, one on each side of the blade.

Materials:

Wrought iron, 52100, mild steel, Tin and Ipe (I think!) for the handle. As with many of my handle materials, this was given to me by a woodworker who didn’t have use for such a small piece and I don’t have any notes on the species. Handle installation is with natural sealing wax.

Specs:

245×58 mm

Thickness at handle: 4.3 mm

@ Midpoint: 3.7

@ Grind-line: 2.8

@ 1 cm from tip: 1.1

Weight: 292g

This work is experimental. There are likely to be some small pinholes in the soft metals. And yes, they are very soft. They will scratch very easily but I believe that they can be used with care, like you might use a Honyaki.

If you purchase one of these blades and experience something that you were not expecting, please contact me. I am committed to working with each customer to ensure their satisfaction. While a refund is an option (within a reasonable timeframe) I would greatly appreciate if those buying these knives would go into it with a willingness to consider first repair, second replacement and only as a last resort, a full refund.

As usual, this knife is sold by lottery. Please enter you email below to be entered in the drawing to buy this knife for the listed price. The winner will be notified on Thursday, February 12th.
