Yobitsugi 212mm Gyuto

Yobitsugi 212mm Gyuto
Many of the knives I have released lately are inspired by the concept of Yobitsugi: taking a piece from a broken object and adding it to different piece as a repair or accent. The blades that I have made from a tang section of a failed knife, fused to a new blade are closer to the concept of repair that might be regarded as the core idea of Yobitsugi but this approach borrows more from the aesthetic of such repairs in ceramics. The “patches” are fragments of broken knives that failed somewhere in the making process. In this case, I have composed them along the spine, like the way a Yobitsugi repair will usually rebuild the edge of a broken bowl or plate. You can read more on the blog, if you havnt already.
The blade is 52100 with bronze and tin repairs. The handle is Honduran Rosewood and Ebony.
Blade length: 212mm
Height: 53mm
Thickness at handle: 4.1mm
Thickness at midpoint: 2.9mm
Thickness at grindline (estimated): 2.0mm
Thickness 1cm from the tip: 1.1mm
Weight: 208g
This work is experimental and ambitious by nature. There are likely to be some small pinholes in the soft metals. And yes, they are very soft. They will scratch very easily but I believe that they can be used with care, like other precision knives.
I am happy to say that I have been selling knives made with these methods for 6 months and so far, no one has reported a problem.
But, If you purchase one of these blades and experience something that you were not expecting, please contact me. I am committed to working with each customer to ensure their satisfaction. While a refund is an option (within a reasonable timeframe) I would greatly appreciate if those buying these knives would go into it with a willingness to consider first repair, second replacement and only as a last resort, a full refund.
As usual, this knife is sold by lottery. Please enter you email below to be entered in the drawing to buy this knife for the listed price. The drawing will take place Sunday, April 19th.
