Yobitsugi 250mm Gyuto

Yobitsugi 250mm Gyuto
This knife is inspired by the concept of Yobitsugi: taking a piece from a broken object and adding it to different piece as a repair or accent. The blades that I have made from a tang section of a failed knife, fused to a new blade are closer to the concept of repair that might be regarded as the core idea of Yobitsugi but the composition of this blade borrows more from the aesthetic of such repairs in ceramics. The “patches” are fragments of broken knives that failed somewhere in the making process. In this case, I have composed them along the spine, like the way a Yobitsugi repair will usually rebuild the edge of a broken bowl or plate. You can read more on the blog, if you haven’t already.
The blade is 52100 with tin repairs. The handle is Blackwood and Madagascar Rosewood.
